a simple wallhanging

2014-01-08 13.48.17

I seem to have amassed a large collection of twigs lately and I wanted to do something with them. I made this wallhanging in about 15 minutes.

You will need:

  • A small twig/branch
  • White paint/spray paint
  • White yarn/thread
  • PVA glue
  • Small paintbrush
  • Scissors

Spray/paint your twig and leave to dry

Cut a length of yarn and attach to either end of the twig to create a hanger. I found it much easier to work on this while it was hung, rather than trying to work on a flat surface.

Cut lengths of yarn to your desired length (mine has a 60cm drop)

Glue the ends of your yarn to the twig. I dabbed a little glue on the yarn, placed on the twig then painted more glue on top to secure

When all your yarn is on the twig, paste a little more glue across the area to secure and set to the twig.

Leave to dry and then hang

Ta Dah!

tiny christmas

christmas

Imagine you live in a small apartment. A Studio apartment. In London, where space just doesn’t exist. Unless you’re a millionaire, which I’m not (yet). Where do you put a Christmas tree? The wall! Having lived in such a tiny space for almost a year, I’ve learned to use all available space for storage and for decoration. Floor space is limited so I knew one of my 4 walls would have the answer to my problem.

The branch came from my local park (found on the ground – no trees were harmed). I painted it white with some leftover paint and decorated with some tiny baubles bought from Paperchase, M&S and Tiger. It was attached to the wall with a small nail (don’t tell the landlord!). Although I did miss having my kitsch white Christmas tree with all my vintage decorations, this was a cheap and stylish way to add a bit of Christmas to my tiny space.

When Cicada Books asked me to style project shots for their new book Mini Eco I was so excited! I’d been following Kate Lilley’s beautiful blog for a while and it was a treat to get to work with all her paper projects and DIYs. Here are my favourite images from the shoots.

wedding cakes

I love a good cake. When I was asked to style images for a wedding cake book it was pretty much a dream come true situation. But then I thought about it and realised I wouldn’t get to actually eat ALL the cake. Such sad face. BUT, I did get to hang out in the cake baking kitchen and eat some leftovers while shooting so it wasn’t all bad.

The book is Wedding Cakes by Rosalind Miller (published by Cicada Books), who has won the title wedding cake designer of the year 2 years running. Here are some of my favourite images from the book.
